Today is All Souls Day, or Day of the Dead, in many countries. It reminds us that death and loss are experienced in diverse ways across time and space. Use the Bibliography of British and Irish History (BBIH) to explore the history of grief, from Shakespeare's plays or observing Remembrance Day.You can also research the history of grief and how these experiences changed over historical time in BBIH is to use subject terms such as 'mourning', 'melancholy' and 'death'.Learn more using our history of emotions reading list https://buff.ly/3FnV56j

It's Patron Sunday @ Apocatastasis! Why? Because today, Christmas Eve, is the feast day of Adam and Eve. They are two of the four patron saints of the Institute. Largely forgotten in our day and age, Ss. Adam and Eve (1) are indeed are canonized saints, and (2) were a vital part of the Medieval Christmas liturgical cycle. Our first parents are indeed fitting intercessors for "An Institute For The Humanities." Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/esr-9_-5

This lecture focuses on the three fundamental forms of human freedom: the freedom to move away, the freedom to disobey, and the freedom to imagine and enact alternative forms of social existence. These freedoms, once accessible to various societies throughout human history, have largely been erased in today's world due to the last half a millennium of land enclosures, mass enslavement, plunder, wars, and the rise of capitalism. This presentation aims to revisit and reinterpret these freedoms in the context of human history, drawing on a broad range of empirical and historical evidence.#history #historymatters #capitalism #enclosure #slavery #wars, #societalimpacts #freedomWATCH: https://lnkd.in/gHMUNq94
